Abstract

New word formation cannot be avoided in the making sentences, paragraphs, and also to speak, because words are part of the language which develops interaction between individuals in a society as human communication. The nature of communication are verbal communication (oral and writing) and non verbal communication (sign language and symbols). People often use media in verbal communication, such as written media or mass media (newspaper, magazines, billboards, tabloids and banners). This research analyzed about the structure of words contained in the article Al Jazeera News entitled “Syria’s Refuge Children: Future lost to the war” which uses derivation and inflection word formation process. This research aims to know how word formation occurs and identifies how many new words are formed by derivation and inflection processes. Descriptive qualitative method uses in this research. It begins by reading theories of word formation which related to journal and books, determine the article, furthermore classifies the words that contain derivation and inflection process. From the both word formation process that used (derivation and inflection) in analyzing the article, the result of the study found inflection is mostly used, because in the article required grammatical function that contained in inflection.  Keywords: Derivation, Inflection, Word formation process

Abstract

Abstract- The purpose of this analysis is to identify loyalty of the main character in The Choice movies. This study used descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. The data are the scenes and the dialogs of the main character that contains loyalty. The results of this research indicates that;(1)  The loyalty appears in the main character, (2) The loyalty types of the main character are romantic loyalist and loyal sentinel, (3) the moral message contained in the movie are keep loyal and strong, never give up, and always together that this movie explains clearly that to be a true man is one of the condition that must be possessed is loyalty.     Keywords:  literature, main character, types of loyalty.

Abstract

SARI Literature is art of written works used to describe written or spoken material or anything from creative writing to more technical or scientific works. Literature is beautiful works. Everyone can explore their imaginations, emotional, experiences, and ideas or whatever they feel or think by using poems, lyrics, fiction and nonfiction works, films or drama. The writer chooses poem as object of analysis. Because Poem is not only different than other types of literary works, but poem also has characteristic which makes poem different than ordinary speech or writing. The rhythm is unique, and there is beauty in it. Poem is one of art of written works in verse used to describe poet’s soul experiences, ideas or thoughts of the author.This analysis focus on poems by William Blake; ‘Ah sun flower’,’The Sick Rose’, ‘A Poison Tree’,’The Lamb’, and “London”. From five of those poems focus on the interinsic elements of poems,they are; diction,figure of speech. for advancing analysis writer  uses a qualitative approach as a research metodology. While for analysing the three things, the writer uses a descriptive approach that reveals the themes of the five poems. The result of the analysis are; First,In analysing the dicition, the writer finds that the diction contains two meanings,they are connotation dan denotation meanings. Second, in analysing the figure of speech,the writer finds metaphor,personification,and hyperbola meanings. Then the third, in anaylising the theme the writer finds ; the theme of “Ah sun flower” is about death but is not the bad side of death, and the theme of "The Sick Rose" is about a girl who is seriously ill of an illness, then The theme of  "A poison Tree" about the bad side of  human nature: anger and desire to win over his enemies.,while The theme of  "The Lamb" is about religion, namely; the greatness of God, His creations, and His tenderness, the last one is theme of  "London" that is  about the people of London who experienced injustice from the government throughout Blake's life. Key words: Qualitative approach, descriptive approach, interinsic elements of poems

Abstract

Abstract: Speaking is an important skill in learning English. However, the teacher still need an appropriate technique to teach speaking. So that, the writer used Information Gap technique in  learning English speaking. This study aims to apply Information-Gap techniques in teaching speaking English in 8th grade students at MTs.Al-Husna Depok. In this study, the writer uses A Classroom Action Research (CAR). The writer analyzes and collects data during the teaching process through; interviews, observation, literature study, and the internet. Moreover,  in order to collect the result of the significant differences before and after of using Information Gap, the writer uses pre-test and post-test during the observation. The research findings include: 1) Information Gap is an interesting technique in learning speaking, so that the students can enjoy the learning process. 2) With the Information Gap technique can make students more active in communication, and increase the courage and confidence of students. 3) In addition, by applying this technique students do not feel bored, because there are many different and interesting activities in Information Gap technique. Abstract

This paper tries to investigate the use of directive speech acts in different social class. Using the six types of directive speech acts proposed by Ervin-Tripp (1976), which are need statement, imperative, imbedded imperative, permission directive, question directive and hint, this paper focuses on the main male characters’ utterances from two novels; Crazy Rich Asians written by Kevin Kwan which represents upper class society and I am the Messenger written by Markus Zusak which represents lower class society. The results show that both upper and lower social classes mostly use imperative directive (42 utterances or 80%). Lower class male character uses more ‘need statement directive’ than upper class male character. Meanwhile, upper class character uses more ‘question directive’ than lower class character. Generally, upper class people use the directive as commands to their employees while the lower class character uses directive in his work as a cab driver which required him to be more direct in asking and offering the customers

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out how multiple personality of dr. Jang Choel shown in Partners for Justice Movie Season 2 and the cause of the multiple personality disorder. This research uses descriptive qualitative method and library research. The writers found out that the real personality of dr. Jang is kind a warm person, but he will show his other personality which is dr.K if he remembers his childhood traumatic. The cause of his multiple personality disorder is physical abuse that performed by his mother. He also experienced traumatic of closed and dark place because he always locked by his mother in the bathroom when he made a mistake.

Abstract

Abstract  -- Print advertising contains several elements that can be discussed linguistically. There are semiotic elements commonly found in advertisements. There are lack discussion from researchers deal with semiotic elements in advertisements. There are three advertisements that will be analyzed in this research. The objective of this research is to find out semiotic elements in the Pantene Shampoo print advertising of “Zooey Deschanel” edition. The analysis is focused on semiotic elements by referring to Roland Barthes -- is commonly known as Barthesian Model. Barthes classified semiotic elements into Denotative, Connotative, and Myth. The analysis is presented by using descriptive qualitative method. Barthes’ Order of Signification will be the main pattern used to do the analysis. The results indicate that there are some signs found in the advertisements that contain semiotic elements. Eagerly saying that those three advertisements contain all semiotic elements as mentioned on order of signification from Roland Barthes. The writers found 32 signs in all advertisements, Signifier; and Connotative Signifier dominates all signs. The semiotic elements discussion can be used as raw model for next researchs. Beside that,  this discussion will inform and helpful to the advertisement producers, and alert them to think of all and consider the semiotic elements in their ads. The creators of the advertisements have to make it easy to understand by the public or target market of the product. Keywords: Print Advertising, Semiotics Elements, Sign, Signifier, Connotative Signifier.

Abstract

Abstract - The goal of this reaserach is to get data about the effect of peer tutor learnings, individulalearnings,  and dicipline to the result of english learning at SMP Anugerah Abadi Pamulang Tangerang Selatan.The method of this research is experimental. The sample are 60 students that consist of 3O experimental class, and 3O control class that uses sampling technique, cluster sampling of learning. It can be proved by Fo=7,087 and sig = 0,010 < 0,05. The data analysis uses ANOVA in two line. The result of this research shows are: (1) there is signifcant effect of peer tutor learnings to the result of english learning student, (2) there is significant effect between students dicipline to the result of english learning, (3) there is effect of interaction that signficant between students dicipline and peer tutor learnings to the result of english learning. This research has benefit to inprove the result of english learning by using peer tutor learnings, ndivudual learnings,  and students dicipine in the class, and optimalization students in learning English. Key Words: English, Learning Method, peer Tutor, the dicipline, Individu. Abstrak – Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan data tentang pengaruh metode pembelajaran tutor sebaya, individu, dan disiplin terahdap pembelajran bahasa inggris di SMP Anugerah Abadi Pamulang Kota Tangerang Selatan.Metode penelitian ini adalah eksperimental. Sampel yang digunakan adalah 60 siswa yang terdiri dari dari 30 kelas eksperimental, dan 30 kontrol kelas yang menggunakan tehnik sample, sampel cluster dari pembelajaran. Ini dapat dibuktikan dengan Fo=7,087 dan sig = 0,010 < 0,05. Analisis daa menggunakan ANOVA dalam dua line. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan; (1)ada yang pengaruh signifikan dari pembelajaran tutor sebaya terhadap pembelajaran bahasa inggris, (2)ada pengaruh yang signifikan antara kedisiplinan siswa terhadap hasil belajar bahasa inggris, (3) ada pengaruh interaksi yang signifikan antara kedisplinan dan tuturo sebaya terhadap hasil belajar bahasa inggris. Penelitian ini telah memberikan masukan untuk meningkatkan hasil pembelajaran  bahasa inggris dengan menggunakan metode tutor sebay, individu, dan kedisiplinan siswa di kelas, dan optimalisasi siswa dalam belajar bahasa inggris. Kata Kunci: Bahasa Inggris, Metode Belajar, Tutor sebaya, disiplin, pribadi

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the improvement of the student’s achievement in speaking by listening practice for Broadcasting and Public Speaking class at Bina Sarana Informatika University. These classes got English subject at even semester. They learnt to focusing on speaking, that’s why the researchers help the students to achieve their performance in speaking skill. By using listening practice through audio and video, the researchers hope that they will improve their speaking. The method that has been used by this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) where the researchers as well as the teachers involved in the class that they are observing. Data were taken by sample of 20 students from each class. Technique for collecting data was descriptive qualitative and quantitative. Technique for analyzing data was used descriptive which describe the finding of the research which used some tables, frequency which was benefit to describe the achievements of the students in speaking from pre-test, cycle 1, and cycle 2. The finding of the research was the students’ achievement in speaking were good by using listening practice during a semester. The final achievement from Broadcasting got score 6,24 in average and Public Relation class got score 7,06.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to analyze plosive and fricative consonants pronunciation errors in recordings that made by students in vocational high school in Jakarta. The research method that used to analyze plosive and fricative consonants pronunciation errors in recordings that made by the students is descriptive qualitative method and based only on a few sound recordings.
